The Nature of Farming is a poetic collage of stories of nature-friendly farms in Denmark and their regenerative approach to farming, restoring soil microbiology as well as biodiversity above ground, drawing CO2 out of the atmosphere, building soil fertility, and balancing our water and carbon cycles. Selected researchers and experts supplement with relevant information and reflections. Thus, the film is full of visions and useful scientific information, but it is also beautiful and healing in its own way and can be watched by everyone. What does life-affirming farming look, sound and feel like? Director Isabelle Denaro hopes to create a longing that, at best, will inspire people to push towards a new farming paradigm.
Isabelle Denaro is a Danish film director with a special interest in human as well as planetary nature and the relationships within the more than human community. Everything she creates aims to expand our consciousness and push towards new existential paradigms. She likes to delve into what others suppress, and is a whistleblower at heart. Currently, she is drawn to utopian narratives as a response to the dystopian reality we live in, where nature is slowly dying while we as humans watch paralyzed or just carry on. "If we all lived in service to the planet, humanity and all living things, we would regenerate ourselves and Mother Earth", she says. As a filmmaker, she has both a poetic and a documentary side. A critic once wrote that there was a special elegance and rare attention to detail in her creations. The common denominator is undoubtedly beauty, because "it is the door to love, and love is the door to everything".
